Scarlet Tanager

Scarlet Tanager, male, and one of the most beautiful birds in America. Sadly in decline. This fellow is in full brilliance for mating. They are among the fastest flyers crossing the Gulf and usually among the first in. You will see him later in comparison with a Summer Tanager. His totally black wings, eyes and tail feathers against exquisite scarlet mark him as one of our treasures.
