Johnny Appleseed Started Small.

Trees for the Small Garden (hardcover) by Simon Toomer

"Planting trees is one of the most valuable and enduring things we can do, and can be carried out quickly, cheaply, and without any specialist..."

A good guide to selecting the appropriate tree for a garden or yard, with 100 species featured, detailing height, heartiness, origin, soil and sun requirements as well as advantages and shortcomings.  Good, color pictures in various seasons, and Tree Selector tables for species benefits. Timber Press (March 15, 2005) 176 pages, ISBN 0881926833

Remember: No trees, no birds.  No birds, no trees!

Wild birds enjoy a proven symbiotic relationship to our trees.  Trees offer food and shelter.  Our birds keep trees clean and healthy, much like small birds with hippos, elephants and others throughout the world.

A reminder to keep your cat(s) indoors.  For their safety as well as wildlife.  And maybe, they'll learn something...

Another reminder: Hummingbirds will be migrating south in a few weeks to Latin America.  Put your feeders out if you missed them in the Spring.
