The American Wild Turkey--
Dignified,smart,sharp-eyed/sharp-eared/sharp-clawed, fleet of foot but a capable flier if pressed, tough as nails, an enterprising forager of good disposition, and an organizer. Ben Franklin thought that the American Wild Turkey should be designated the national symbol. Unfortunately, the Wild Turkey's domestic relatives slander his name. He looks more a Diplomat than a warrior -- much like Franklin. (Photograph courtesy Missouri Department of Conservation)
