Bird Observatories are not usual nature centers, but highly focused research centers with primary emphasis on birds, trying to bring the rest of us to a greater understanding and awareness of the needs of birds. They are professionals, skilled laymen, and volunteers. Many bird observatories have bird banding at their core, monitoring programs, workshops, field trips and demonstrations. Their hope is to bring people and birds closer together in a world of encroaching asphalt and concrete. This is an enjoyable family outing.
