~Over 68,000 birds handed since 1985.
~ Conducts handing 7 days/week during peak times; April 15 to June 1 and August 20 to November 1.
~A few years ago, 2-tiered nets were added to attempt to correlate capture height with species. In 1998, they began recording the specific nets for each bird take, to correlate species with preferred stopover habitat.

~ The Lab was founded in 1915 by Dr. Arthur Allen, the country's first Professor of Ornithology. Dr. Allen recognized the significant contributions to be made by citizen birders, and the lab continues to emphasize involving volunteers in hands-on science and conservation efforts.
~ Birders come from all over the world to enjoy the Lab head-quarters, with its four miles of trails and other unique features.
~ The Lyman K. Stuart Observatory, which features huge glass walls overlooking a specially designed bird-feeding garden and ten-acre pond. Outdoor microphones bring nature's sounds indoors.
~ An extensive collection of original paintings by renowned artist Louis Agassiz Fuertes is on permanent eThibition.

~ Year-round daily census since Jan.'87. Raptor migration counts, butterfly counts, botanical census, herp studies and census. Spring and fall banding is mostly passerines.
~ Daily point counts conducted since lall of'86; Over 30,000
birds banded.
~ In the last two weeks of October 1999 there was a massive eruption of Black capped Chickadees; they banded more in two weeks than in the entire 12 years previously (700 birds); three Gamble's white-crowned Sparrows banded in '97 and '98.
