~ Conservation plans focus regionally, on the 5 U.S. and 6 Mexican states bordering the Gulf of Mexico.
~ Efforts target international partnerships to protect stopover habitat of nearetic-neotropical migratory land birds, and studying their distribution and use of habitats.
~ GCBO also manages projects for their partners which involve: 1) monitoring avian migrants, 2) public education programs, and 3) acquiring and restoring stopover habitats for birds and bird observation.

~ Located at the confluence of two main migratory flyways,
and at the boundary of four major climatic zones, the Rio Grande Valley is among the most important regions for birds in the U.S. Many local species cannot be found anywhere else in North America.
~ As 90% or more of native brush and forested habitats have been cleared in the Valley, and the Valley becomes increasingly urbanized, research focuses on the study of urban and suburban habitat remnants, and which environments retain the most usefulness to birds.
~ RGVBO conducts a variety of educational programs, both on-site and at a variety of locations in the community. Field trips are also conducted monthly.
